FAQs

How To Replace The 2009 Honda Civic Headlight Bulb

  1. Open the Hood: Begin by opening your Civic's hood to access the headlight area.
  2. Access via Fender: Locate the passenger side fender. The low beam bulb is best accessed from here due to obstructions like brake lines and the washer jug neck in the engine compartment.
  3. Remove Fender Liner Clips: Underneath the fender, find the fender liner. Remove two clips holding it to the fender using a flathead screwdriver. Carefully wiggle and spin the clips to release them without breaking.
  4. Peel Back Fender Liner: Start peeling the fender liner from the bumper side, pushing it down and out of the way to access the back of the headlight assembly.
  5. Remove the Bulb: Reach behind the headlight assembly. Use your left hand to turn the bulb counterclockwise with your thumb on the top and index finger on the side of the plug, then pull it out.
  6. Disconnect the Plug: Push on the bottom of the clip with your thumb to release the plug from the bulb, then pull the bulb straight out.
  7. Install New Bulb: The replacement bulb size is 9006. Insert the new bulb into the socket, aligning the tabs appropriately. Push it in and turn clockwise until it locks into place, ensuring the bulb faces downward at a 45-degree angle from the engine.
  8. Reconnect Plug: Attach the plug to the new bulb and push until you hear a click, indicating it is secured.
  9. Reassemble Fender Liner: Tuck the fender liner back behind the bumper, starting from the lowest point.
  10. Replace Fender Liner Clips: Reinsert the clips into the fender liner. If they are difficult to insert, pull the middle portion out, squeeze the tabs slightly, then push them back into the hole before pushing the middle portion back in to secure them.
