Step-by-Step Guide: How to Replace a 2014 Hyundai Elantra Headlight Bulb

Gather the Tools

  • Philips screwdriver
  • 10 millimeter wrench
  • 12 millimeter wrench

Open the Hood    

  • Enter the driver's side of the car.
  • Locate the primary hood release lever and open it.
  • Find the secondary hood release lever on top, just above the Hyundai emblem.
  • Insert one finger and lift it up to unlock the hood.

Secure the Hood

  • Look for the hood support rod, which holds the hood in place.
  • Pull it out and put it into the designated slot with the arrow marking.

Remove Bolts and Clips

 

  • Use the screwdriver to remove three clips from the front of the vehicle.
  • Use the wrench to remove three bolts (two 10mm and one 12mm) from the same area.

Disconnect the Electrical Connector

  • Locate the electrical connector attached to the headlight.
  • Press it down with your thumb and pull it out gently to disconnect it.

Slide Out the Headlight

  • Slide the headlight out of its slots carefully. This may require some maneuvering.
  • If necessary, gently pull the bumper to provide clearance for removing the headlight.

Access the Bulbs

Once the headlight is out, access the bulbs:

  • High beam bulb
  • Low beam bulb
  • Turn signal bulb
  • Nighttime bulb (city light)

Replace the High Beam Bulb

  • Remove the dust cover by twisting it to the left.
  • Undo the metal clip and remove the old high beam bulb.
  • Insert the new high beam bulb, ensuring not to touch the bulb's surface.
  • Reattach the metal clip, and put the dust cover back on by twisting it to the right.

Replace the Low Beam Bulb

  • Follow the same procedure as for the high beam bulb, including removing the dust cover.
  • Carefully insert the new low beam bulb, avoiding contact with the bulb's surface.
  •  Reattach the dust cover by twisting it to the right.

Reassemble the Headlight

  • Carefully slide the headlight back into its slots.
  • Ensure that the clips on the headlight align with and slide under the slots.
  • Press the headlight into place.

Secure with Clips and Bolts

  • Reattach the plastic clips and tighten the three bolts using the wrench.

Reconnect the Electrical Connector

  • Reconnect the electrical connector to the headlight.

Test the Headlights

  • Check the high beam and low beam to ensure they are working correctly.

Finishing Up

  • Make sure all parts are securely in place.
  • Lower the hood gently and close it securely.
